Some projects need a borehole drilling contractor to work to an existing design; others need assessment, heat-pump design and installation together. Make that distinction in your enquiry. If another professional is already designing the system, tell the contractor who they are and what information is available.
Start with the building, not a heat-pump size
Describe the property, its insulation, existing heating and any renovation plans. Ask for a heat-loss assessment and an explanation of the proposed operating temperatures and controls. The ground works, heat pump and heat distribution inside the building need to be considered together.
Compare the whole scope
Ask who is responsible for ground assessment, drilling or ground-loop work, plant-room equipment, electrical work, commissioning and reinstatement. Identify any separate contracts and the person responsible for coordination. Ask the installer to document exclusions and any assumptions behind performance estimates.
Allow for access and future maintenance
Tell the specialist about available land, buried services, narrow entrances and any work planned on the same site. Discuss servicing, warranties and who to call if performance changes.
