Start with the source and the test results
Explain whether your supply comes from a borehole, spring or another private source. Share the full available laboratory report and when and where the sample was taken. Describe existing equipment and any changes you have noticed. A photograph or description of water appearance cannot establish whether it is suitable to drink.
Choose treatment around the actual supply
Ask the specialist to explain the problem each proposed treatment stage addresses and the evidence supporting it. Tell them about daily demand, peak use, storage, pressure and available installation space. Ask whether further sampling or assessment is needed before equipment can be specified.
Compare installation and ongoing costs
Request a quotation that separates equipment, pipework, electrical work, commissioning and any changes to pumping or storage. Check consumables, servicing intervals, replacement parts and future testing. Ask what happens if a component fails and whether alarms or other safeguards are appropriate.
Agree who will look after the system
Keep treatment instructions, service records and laboratory reports together. If the supply serves several properties or a business, explain that at the outset. Ask the local authority or a qualified private-water specialist which monitoring and risk-assessment arrangements apply to your supply.
