Is a borehole right for your property?
Start with the job you need the water supply to do: a home, livestock, irrigation or commercial processes may have different demand patterns. Tell the contractor about the current supply, periods of peak use and whether several buildings will share the system. A neighbour's borehole is useful background, but it does not establish the yield or water quality at your property.
What should a borehole quotation include?
Ask for a clear split between feasibility work, drilling, casing, pump equipment, controls, storage, water testing, treatment and connections. Establish who arranges the electricity supply and reinstates the working area. Ask which items are provisional and what happens if drilling needs to go deeper or the expected supply cannot be obtained.
Prepare for the site assessment
Provide the postcode and any site plans, access widths, overhead restrictions and buried-service information you already have. Explain whether equipment needs to cross a field or shared land. Ask the specialist to identify the assessments and permissions relevant to the proposed abstraction and intended use before committing to drilling.
Think about the running costs
Ask about pump energy use, servicing, replacement filters and repeat water testing as well as installation. Agree who will maintain the supply and what handover information you will receive. A private supply is an ongoing responsibility, so compare the complete system rather than the drilling price alone.
